Nintendo Only Makes Simple, Casual Frien ...

As the title says, Nintendo makes easy games that anyone can pick up They've ALWAYS made easy games that anyone can play This isn't a new condition because of the Wii. When Nintendo hit the market with the NES they gave it's users games that could be picked up and played by anyone. They've washed and repeated this for over 20 years. It's bad enough that some people actually think there are hardcore games on the market. They further compound that by saying that Nintendo doesn't make it's hardcore games like Mario and Zelda that often.........WHAT???The Mario franchise is not only the most well known franchise in gaming but it's also the easiest.
Zelda takes that same easy gameplay and just goes in a different direction.

The plots are so simple that even the smallest of children can understand them. Put a 4 year old in front of a Nintendo system with it's top games and he or she will know exactly what's going onI mean all the ''hardcore old school'' users were excited to see R.O.B. in Smash Bros.
R.O.B. was a toy that helped the North American appeal for the NES. Know the equivalent of that today? The Wii shipping with a Tickle Me Elmo. Nintendo's audience is everyone. It caters to novice users and hardcore users with it's games.Whatever franchise you think of that Nintendo makes can be played, and played well, by someone who has never played games before, that's the entire point of the company. Why is this news to so many people? Nintendo Only Makes Simple, Casual Frien ...
this probably belongs in the system wars section........... please use the Wii forum to discuss wii games. not to bash on the system.Nintendo Only Makes Simple, Casual Frien ...
Nintendo is a company that makes games and consoles. I wouldn't say that they make just simple, casual games because it's not true all the time. The problem with a company that wants to please everyone is that they will upset some. You just can't please everyone all the time, it's impossible. I just hope that Nintendo doesn't just keep repeating games from the past but also gives us new ones.I bought the Wii to play good games and to avoid getting the poorer ones. I don't care who makes them as long as they are good.
this probably belongs in the system wars section........... please use the Wii forum to discuss wii games. not to bash on the system.
How is ANY of what he said bashing Nintendo?Other than the fact that Tickle Me Elmo came out in 1996 (thus would be the R.O.B. of the N64) everything else fits perfectly.
The problem with a company that wants to please everyone is that they will upset some. You just can't please everyone all the time, it's impossible.
Exactly, but if you target everyone and every specific part of everyone likes at least something you make then you've accomplished your goal. Everyone can find something they like in a Nintendo game. Mario games are easy as pie and you can hand anyone a controller and they'll finish at least one level and feel they accomplished something. At the same time people who desire more of a challenge can go and search out every star or every secret level. If you make your entire catalog geared towards everyone no one is excluded. Some people may opt out themselves but no one is going to look at a Nintendo game and say ''whoa, I think I'm in over my head here''

Well sort of. If Nintendo knew what a voice over was I would agree with this, but to this day they still expect you to manually read everything... which would leave out most 4 year olds. Sure some 4 year olds are smarter than others, but again if they are 4 and can read well enough to follow anything then they are the cream of the crop in the first place. If you increased this age limit to 6 and threw in the fact the kid wasn't mentally handicapped I would be ok with this statement as I agree Nintendo's stories are so basic that reading them is usually the hardest / complex thing about them.

To expand on your topic though. They have always made games that appeal to the masses. The difference between this gen and last to be specific is some gameplay elements were in there just so people had something to really master because they were too poor / cheap / lame to buy another game. For example: Drifting in Mario Kart or F-Zero. The games appeal to the masses, yet they had those cheap-ass gimmicks for the truly dedicated to spend hours upon hours hammering out to mastery. (or SSBM's wave dashing)

The problem arises that this gen they even took out the cheap-ass gimmicks. I think that is why there is an uproar. Now the games are just as shallow without any gimmick to practice for hours on end until you master them.
Ive been talking about this for a while now. Even my parents know how to play the wii. UGh.We as gamers need a CHALLENGE!!I wish there were more Rated M games.....Im tired of this kiddy stuff.I WANT TO SEE BOOBS AND BLOOD!!

Why do you need to see boobs in a Mario game??? Go get some porn!

You understand that M rated games are labeled that way for content right?

It has nothing to do with difficulty
So you want bloody boobs?! :| Hmmm..... that does sound a little hot.:D Only a little.;)

You do realize you are on the internet right... I see no reason to lower gaming's standards to fulfill something so easily and readily available via other means.
The Mario franchise is not only the most well known franchise in gaming but it's also the easiest.
What aspect of Mario is easy? Easy to get into? Or easy to beat the first few worlds? Super Mario Bros 1, 3, World, and 64 have some incredibly difficult levels toward the end of the game (Star World anyone?). Unless you're a seasoned veteran, used to the difficulty level of older games like Mega Man or Castlevania, it's a bit of a stretch to say that they were 'easy' games. I have a hard time believing that amateur or 'casual' players are just strolling through any game in the series except Mario Galaxy.
Mario is easy?Really? So I assume you can beat the Lost Levels without frustration?Or that you have found all the secret exits in Super Mario World,or all the stars in Super Mario Galaxy?Mario is both ''casual'' and ''hardcore;'' it isn't all just black and white.
So what? If you don't like it, don't buy it, that's all I gotta say.

Nintendo has been around much longer than Microsoft or Sony. I suppose your idea of hardcore is like pulverizing rocks with a plastic bat because Super Mario is tough. Star World, anyone?
If I recall... some of the hardest (and most fun) moments I have had in a video game have been from Mario, Zelda, and Metroid games.
I agree that nintendo games are catered towards everyone, not just ''hardcores''. And to be honest it seems like the most logical way to make a game. Because if everyone can get at least some fun out of it they'll sell a heck of a lot more. Also to Hellshammer and Vgobbessor, it seems like Jasonguy already answered your questions about what he meant by easy. Check his second post.
Can't get more hardcore then Nintendo, purely games dedicated consoles with games that resemble games rather then movies or whatever.
Ah,you're right. So he pretty much contradicted himself, considering he described it as both a game for the ''casual'' crowd, and a game for the ''hardcore'' crowd at the same time.So it can be both.

And when they eventually did release it, they took out the harder levels at the end, and threw it in a compilation (All Stars) so that people who couldn't beat the first level would say ''...well, let's play Mario 3 again.'' To Jason now, I would argue that the difference between this gen and previous gens is the degree of simplicity in Nintendo's games. Galaxy was more linear than Sunshine and 64, Twilight Princess was easier than OoT, Wind Waker, and Majora's Mask, Prime 3: Corruption was easier than Echoes or Prime 1, and so on. Even Smash Bros, Nintendo's biggest nod to the ''hardcore'', was simplified in its latest installment.I think your argument falls flat because, while it's true that Nintendo has always made more casual-friendly games, it doesn't compare to what they've done this generation with their franchises. There used to at least be a compelling challenge for more seasoned players, but now it seems to have been reduced, or in some cases, taken out completely. But the important question is, ''are their games still fun?'', and, for me, the answer is still ''yes''.
